  What is WinTV-HVR-950Q?

Happauge WinTV-HVR-950Q is a self-powered USB device that has its own TV antenna that can capture over-the-air signals such as SD NTSC and HD ATSC. It does not require any other power source. It can also view other NTSC signals such as the cable channels nearby. This is a very nice way of watching TV even when not at home. You can use the jack on your own laptop without paying for monthly charges and bills.

It is very portable that you can bring the USB wherever you go and view TV from virtually anywhere in North America. It can supply the clear copy viewing signal ability when you’re at the office, in school, inside the taxi cab and a lot more. It is twice as wide as a regular USB disk and 150% longer too. Because of its wide characteristic, it blocks the neighboring ports on your laptop. A quick fix: use it on the side where there is only one USB port!

Intel Core Duo works best with Happauge WinTV-HVR-950Q. It requires up to 50% of its CPU’s power. Pentium 3 or lower quality CPU’s is a definite no for this one. Very compatible with XP Home and Pro.

With some more hard drive space to record, its DVR capabilities functions fairly well. Recording in SDTV mode needs configuration from the WinTV2000 program. Hit the start button and voila! DVD quality programs can be saved on your hard drive.

So, you get to view and record HDTV with almost excellent viewing quality but consume a lot of disk space. SDTV is ok, if you get to configure SVCD recordings to accommodate it.

You can use it on other laptops or PC’s but the installing process begins yet again.
