What
is WinTV-HVR-950Q?
Happauge
WinTV-HVR-950Q is a self-powered USB device
that has its own TV antenna that can capture over-the-air
signals such as SD NTSC and HD ATSC. It does not require any
other power source. It can also view other NTSC signals such
as the cable channels nearby. This is a very nice way of
watching TV even when not at home. You can use the jack on
your own laptop without paying for monthly charges and
bills.
It is very portable that you can bring the
USB wherever you go and view TV from virtually anywhere in
North America. It can supply the clear copy viewing signal
ability when you’re at the office, in school, inside the
taxi cab and a lot more. It is twice as wide as a regular
USB disk and 150% longer too. Because of its wide
characteristic, it blocks the neighboring ports on your
laptop. A quick fix: use it on the side where there is only
one USB port!
The package includes a CD installer that is
very user-friendly. Installing the apps will never be a
problem. There are no useless items inside the package.
Everything inside and included is the only thing that
matters in putting up the
Happauge
WinTV-HVR-950Q.
The WinTV2000 application, upon opening will
prompt on the screen all the available channels within the
area. At one time, channels encountered are about 30.But
some areas have low quality channels. In high rise
buildings, it is advisable to get a larger antenna to
receive higher quality signals since it causes interference.
Channels received goes down 50% when in areas that have weak
receptions.
One feature of the
Happauge
WinTV-HVR-950Q is that it can record your
favorite TV program. While watching, there is little or no
lag at all. But a little glitch is on when recording.
Intel Core Duo works best with
Happauge
WinTV-HVR-950Q. It requires up to 50% of its
CPU’s power. Pentium 3 or lower quality CPU’s is a definite
no for this one. Very compatible with XP Home and Pro.
With some more hard drive space to record,
its DVR capabilities functions fairly well. Recording in
SDTV mode needs configuration from the WinTV2000 program.
Hit the start button and voila! DVD quality programs can be
saved on your hard drive.
So,
you get to view and record HDTV
with almost excellent viewing quality but consume a lot of
disk space. SDTV is ok, if you get to configure SVCD
recordings to accommodate it.
You can use it on other laptops or PC’s but
the installing process begins yet again.
For media enthusiasts, this is a great find
to
watch TV on the computer.
